St. Lawrence, Canterbury is the largest of the 3 grounds used by Kent county cricket club. It has a capacity of 15,000 spectators and was first established in 1847. It has 2 ends (the Pavilion end and the Nackington Road end). In 2005 Canterbury lost its most famous feature, the lime tree that has stood for 200 years, which was situated just inside the boundary line. It was blown down during winter storms and has signalled the end of an era, but not a tradition, as Kent had planned ahead and had been growing a replacement.
