PCB to probe tour failings

The Pakistan Cricket Board has put in place a six-member inquiry committee to investigate the reasons for the team's debacle during their ongoing tour of Australia.
Pakistan lost all three Test matches and all five one-dayers against Australia and also had captain Shahid Afridi banned for two Twenty20 internationals for tampering with the ball during the last ODI.
Pakistan's chief of selectors Iqbal Qasim has resigned and PCB chairman Ijaz Butt had already indicated Test captain Mohammad Yousuf would be replaced by a younger player. That decision is likely to be recommended by the inquiry committee headed by the PCB's chief operating officer Wasim Bari.
"The committee will look into the various aspects of the team performance and make recommendations accordingly," the PCB said.
The panel also includes the director of the national cricket academy, Haroon Rashid, director of cricket operations Zakir Khan, the board's lawyer Tafazzul Rizvi, former team manager Yawar Saeed and governing board member Wazir Ali Khoja.
However, no time frame has been set.
The choice of committee members has already come in for criticism, with former paceman Sarfraz Nawaz labelling the entire exercise a waste of time.
"The committee either includes PCB officials or people who are close to the PCB chairman," he said.
"What if the fault lies with the PCB officials themselves? Will they recommend any action against themselves?
"To me it is a mere eyewash and it won't serve any purpose."
