Yorkshire clinch promotion

Yorkshire secured promotion to County Championship Division One after holding on for a draw against Derbyshire.

It was an uninspired way to clinch promotion as Craig White's side had dominated the match against the rock-bottom hosts for almost three days until Derbyshire launched a scintillating and spirited comeback.

After looking set to lose by an innings, Ant Botha (156 not out) Tom Lungley (36) and Nick Walker (79) ensured Derbyshire closed their second innings on 523 leaving Yorkshire to score 220 to win.

Knowing they only needed a draw to secure promotion, Yorkshire turned to caution but were heading for defeat until Joe Sayers' unbeaten 50 ensured they held on to close on 114-6.

Yorkshire have an unassailable lead over Essex with one game of the campaign remaining.
