Wessels relieved by victory
Northamptonshire coach Kepler Wessels was relieved to see his side record their first County Championship victory of the season against Worcestershire.
Wessels' side wrapped up an 82-run win at Northampton on Saturday, thanks in no small part to spinner Monty Panesar who took 6-77 as the visitors were bowled out for 200 in their second innings.
"I think we worked long and hard to get this first win under our belts. Hopefully, we can now go from strength to strength," said a delighted Wessels.
"It was a really good performance - we came from behind quite a few times and showed real fighting spirit."
He also had some generous words for matchwinner Panesar, adding: "Monty will definitely play whenever the pitch is turning.
"He's been back from university for only a couple of weeks and he's made a big impact straight away."
Worcestershire's misery was deepened when they were deducted half a point for a slow over rate earlier in the match.
