The 28-year-old will fill in for the absence of compatriot David Hussey, who is taking part in the Indian Premier League.

Notts director of cricket Mick Newell said: "I'm confident he will prove a more than capable replacement.

"He's got an excellent pedigree and should be more or less a straight swap.

"He's played international cricket for Australia and has a good record with the bat, bowls a bit of left-arm spin and by all accounts is an excellent fielder.

"He wants to make a role for himself in county cricket and will have that opportunity with us."
