Vaughan won't rush Giles

England captain Michael Vaughan insists Ashley Giles will not tour India unless he has fully recovered from his hip injury.

The 32-year-old Warwickshire star was forced to return home early from the tour of Pakistan for surgery on the troublesome injury and missed the one-day international series.

He is recovering well from surgery and, if fit, could be a key part of the England attack in India.

However, Vaughan says that the left-armer will not be forced to go on the tour unless his body is up to the rigours of playing in the tough Indian conditions.

"It's so important we get him back but we are not going to take him if he is like he was in Pakistan," the England skipper told the Daily Express.

"He has to be fit and mentally right. He is going to bowl this week and it's still six weeks until the first Test.

"Ashley is a big, big man for our team. He has played 52 Tests and is at the heart of the set-up.

"If you lose Ashley you are going to have to throw someone else in who probably hasn't played in what is the hardest tour of them all.

"If it means the first 10 days of the trip are part of his rehab I'd take that, as long as he is fit for the first Test."
