Vaughan doubt for England

England captain Michael Vaughan is a doubt for the Second Test against Australia after suffering an elbow injury during nets on Tuesday.

Vaughan was struck on the right elbow by a ball from Chris Tremlett and after being attended to by England physio Kurt Russell, was taken to hospital for an X-ray.

Although the skipper failed to impress in the First Test defeat at Lord's, he looked to have rediscovered his best form with a century for Yorkshire on Sunday and his absence would be a major blow.

England would seem to have a readymade replacement available after calling in-form Durham all-rounder Paul Collingwood into the squad on Monday evening, after discovering the Edgbaston pitch is likely to favour the seamers.

Collingwood has scored three centuries in his last four first-class innings and there were calls for him to replace either Ian Bell or Ashley Giles after they struggled in the 239-run loss to Australia a fortnight ago.

However, the selectors have always seemed reluctant to trust the one-day ace in Test cricket and could still send for Kent's Robert Key.
