Sussex handed Mushy boost

Sussex have been boosted by Mushtaq Ahmed being cleared to play for the county again this season.

The veteran leg-spinner's future with Sussex was in doubt due to his participation in the breakaway Indian Cricket League, but Mushtaq has now been cleared by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Sussex chief executive Gus Mackay told The Argus: "We received a second No Objection Certificate this week and are now just completing the paperwork for the ECB.

"Mushy was always confident he would be okay, but it has been a nervous wait so we are very happy the situation has been sorted out."

Sussex captain Chris Adams had earlier told BBC Southern Counties Radio: "He has taken some 467 wickets in five seasons. To take that from our equation is a big miss.

"If he had known he was putting his place at Sussex in jeopardy there is no way he would have signed with the ICL."
