Southee set for Test debut
New Zealand may hand a Test debut to teenager Tim Southee in the series decider against England in Napier.
The 19-year-old, who has played in two Twenty20 internationals, could earn a call-up after impressing during the recent Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia.
Black Caps coach, John Bracewell, commented: "He's a class bowler and the selectors have been watching him for some time. They believe he's ready for the job.
"If the surface is as predicted at Napier, there will be something in it in the first session, then after that it will be reasonably flat.
"The defining factor will probably be swing bowling and at the moment England have the edge on us in that department.
"Therefore, having that extra option of genuine swing might put the balance back on an even keel."
Southee is excited about the prospect of a Test debut, telling the Waikato Times: "It's an awesome opportunity for me.
"This is something I've always wanted. There will definitely be a few nerves around if I get to play."
