Snape named Foxes captain

Leicestershire have named all-rounder Jeremy Snape as their captain for this season following Hylton Ackerman's decision to quit the role.

The 32-year-old has been concentrating on one-day cricket in recent seasons but senior coach Tim Boon thinks he is the perfect man to replace Ackerman.

"Jeremy is a natural leader, as he possesses many skills which I can utilise as part of my plan for developing Leicestershire's future," he said.

"Not only does he have experience of playing at the highest level, he also worked with the England management team during his time in the one-day international squad where his shrewd judgement and input of ideas were of considerable value to our planning."

Snape is surprised by his appointment but is looking forward to a new challenge.

"It's been a surreal few days for me in considering this new role but I was very impressed with the ideas which Tim Boon and chairman Neil Davidson put forward, and it's a fantastic opportunity for me to be involved in shaping the club's future," he said.

"This is a sudden change of career path because I was focussing solely on one-day cricket and developing my consultancy business."
