Shoaib worry for Pakistan

Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer has revealed he is concerned about the form and fitness of Shoaib Akhtar ahead of the three-Test series against England in November.

Shoaib has not played for Pakistan since suffering a hamstring injury in January and there are some concerns about his attitude, but Woolmer believes the fast bowler is potentially the key to beating England.

"Shoaib is important to us," he told The Guardian.

"We have talked with Shoaib about getting into the kind of shape that will not only allow him to get through Tests, but also to be a force right the way through them.

"From all accounts he has started to work hard."

Woolmer also indicated that veteran leg spinner Mushtaq Ahmed is likely to be recalled to the squad at the request of captain Inzamam-ul Haq.

"I think most teams these days need five bowlers," he added.

"Mushtaq has a lot of experience. Even if he is not in the squad, we would be keen for him to work closely with Danish (Kaneria).

"But Inzamam was keen that we should look at the option of bringing him back."

Mushtaq has been out of the Pakistan side since 2003 but has enjoyed success against English batsmen this summer, taking 75 County Championship wickets for Sussex.
