Shoaib ban upheld on appeal
Shoaib Akhtar has had his appeal over a five-year Pakistan Cricket Board ban rejected by a tribunal panel.
The 32-year-old paceman was appealing a lengthy ban handed down by the PCB for repeatedly breaching their code of conduct.
But a three-man tribunal in Lahore upheld the punishment which prevents Shoaib from playing any cricket in Pakistan.
Shoaib is effectively free to play in the Indian Premier League for Kolkata Knight Riders, who signed him in the draft for £425,000 back in February.
However, the IPL are also applying his ban to their competition which could lead to a further appeal.
"We, for the time being, are of the view that Shoaib can play anywhere outside Pakistan," read a PCB statement.
"It was not our intention to him restrain him on that level. Shoaib can also play in the IPL.
"He, however, cannot play for Pakistan internationally or nationally."
