Rain stops play in England-West Indies 1st ODI

Jun 16 2012 - 17:17:55

West Indies were 127 for five off 23 overs in reply to England's 288 for six, a deficit of 161 runs, when rain stopped play at 4.49pm local time (1549GMT) in the first one-day international here on Saturday.

If the weather meant play could not resume, England would win as West Indies had needed to be 171 for five at the end of the 23rd over for victory under the Duckworth/Lewis method governing rain-affected one-day matches.

Marlon Samuels was 20 not out and West Indies captain Darren Sammy nought not out after Ian Bell had made 126 on his return to England's one-day side.

This is the first of a three-match series.
