Nel's Proteas career in doubt
Mystery surrounds the future of South Africa fast bowler Andre Nel, who has been omitted from the Proteas squad for the upcoming Test series in India.
Nel has been excluded partly due to the need for six players of colour to be included in the 14-man party.
That has left the 30-year-old paceman angry and upset at his treatment, with some reports suggesting that he might turn his back on South Africa and join the breakaway Indian Cricket League.
Tony Irish, the chief executive of the South African Cricketers' Association, told Reuters: "It's important that he doesn't make decisions about his future in the heat of the moment.
"Andre is only 30 and has a few years of international cricket left in him."
Convenor of selectors, Joubert Strydom, added: "I don't know whether it is true or not, but I would have been disappointed in Andre if he had been happy that he had been dropped."
Cricket South Africa deputy president and Proteas team manager, Logan Naidoo, confirmed: "We have to try to select a team that can be the best in the world, but we must at the same time look at transformation targets.
"Andre has been the unfortunate player to be on the receiving end this time around. We sympathise with him for what has happened."
