Mushtaq sent for surgery

Sussex will be without Mushtaq Ahmed for at least three weeks after the spinner underwent surgery on a knee injury.

Sussex had hoped to postpone the keyhole surgery until the start of the Twenty20 season next month.

However, they have now opted to send the 37-year-old former Pakistan international for the operation now with a view to a return towards the end of the month.

"We had hoped he would play in four-day cricket up to the Twenty20 window," said Sussex cricket manager Mark Robinson.

"But we felt it would not be right to have having him playing in discomfort.

"With the amount of unsettled weather around and the fact our club surgeon said he could get him in that day, we felt it was the wisest decision to make."
