Middle time pleases Cook

England opener Alastair Cook is hoping that his recent outing for Essex against the touring New Zealanders will help him succeed in the upcoming Test series.

The 23-year-old left-hander is eager to maintain his excellent start to his Test career and feels that more time in the middle against the Black Caps will always prove useful.

Cook said: "I've seen quite a lot of the New Zealand bowlers in the past few months, but it was good to see them close-up under English conditions.

"No matter how much time you spend netting and doing throw-downs, it's when you are out in the middle that you get rhythm and fluency into your batting.

"I've been working hard in the nets on my batting, my alignment and my balance and keeping things simple."
