McGrath rewarded with rest

Australia fast bowler Glenn McGrath will not play against his former county Worcestershire in the three-day tour match that starts at New Road on Saturday

The tourists' management have decided to rest the veteran after his man-of-the-match display in the First Test at Lord's.

Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist, Damien Martyn and Brett Lee will also have the weekend off after their exploits in the 239-run victory against England.

The absence of McGrath and Lee will give Michael Kasprowicz and Shaun Tait the chance to press their claims for a place in the team for the Second Test.

Jason Gillespie's position in the side is under threat after he failed to take a wicket on the bowler friendly pitch at Lord's and he will need to impress at New Road if he is not to lose out to Kasprowicz or Tait at Edgbaston.

Batsman Brad Hodge, wicketkeeper Brad Haddin and spinner Stuart MacGill will also have a chance to impress the selectors against Worcestershire.
