Loye backing Freddie to fire

Mal Loye is backing Andrew Flintoff to bludgeon Lancashire to Twenty20 success at the Brit Oval on Saturday.

The Red Rose county are looking to avenge last season's semi-final defeat against Surrey in order to book a final spot against either Leicestershire or Somerset, and Loye believes the return of the England all rounder will prove vital.

"Everyone knows what he can do with both bat and ball, and this is just the sort of big stage he relishes," he told BBC Sport.

"Bring somebody like Freddie in and it adds strength to an already pretty powerful batting line-up."

Lancashire will also have Australian star Andrew Symonds in their line-up and expect run machine Stuart Law to return from a shoulder injury.

With all that firepower available Lancashire will start as favourites on finals day, but the in-form Loye knows they cannot afford to be overconfident.

"In Twenty20 perhaps more than any other form of cricket, one player can change the course of a game," he said.

"We've certainly got those players, although Surrey have as well. It's really about who performs best on the day and can raise their game."
