Knee surgery for Phillips

Essex all-rounder Tim Phillips will be sidelined for a month after being forced to have a knee operation.

The 27-year-old picked up the injury during last week's 2nd XI game against Surrey.

"Tim underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair damaged cartilage in his right knee. The surgery went well and he's expected to return to play in six weeks," said Essex physio Mark Thomas.

Phillips is not expected to return to action until the Twenty20 Cup starts next month.
