Kent boss keen on Key
Kent batsman Robert Key has been backed to make his mark for England before the Ashes series finishes in September.
The 26-year-old top order batsman is close to the 1,000 first-class run mark this season and has been touted as the man most likely to be called up for England duty if batting problems persist.
Kent's director of cricket Graham Ford told BBC Radio Kent: "I still have a real belief that he will play in this Ashes series. His temperament is perfect to face the Aussies.
"They do have some respect for him, he has the technique and is a deep thinking cricketer. I'd be really excited to see him get in there.
"I don't wish any bad luck on the other players, but I'd love him to be involved because I believe that he can handle it."
Key has played 15 Tests to date, having made his debut against India at Trent Bridge in August 2002.
His last appearance came during last winter's tour of South Africa, scoring 1 and 9 in the drawn Fifth Test with the Proteas at Centurion.
