Jones back in England squad

England have included Simon Jones and Shaun Udal in their 15-man squad for the forthcoming tour of India.

Jones has been troubled by an ankle injury since the summer but has been passed fit to travel to India on February 12.

He missed the three-Test autumn tour of Pakistan which England lost 2-0.

The selectors have delayed naming a third spinner, but Northamptonshire's Monty Panesar is tipped to replace Alex Loudon.

"Michael Vaughan and Ashley Giles both underwent operations before Christmas and their rehabilitation programmes are progressing to plan," said chairman of selectors David Graveney.

"We are delighted that Simon Jones has recovered from ankle surgery. He will fly out to India on 26 January to spend ten days at the MRF Fast Bowling Academy (in Madras).

"Ashley Giles has been part of our attack for a long period of time and was always going to go on this tour. There were flat pitches in Pakistan but I think the pitches in India will be more conducive to spin. We believe Shaun Udal should be given another chance.

"Monty Panesar's figures in domestic cricket last year were really good. He's a very, very good left-arm spinner."

The full squad is: Michael Vaughan, Ian Bell, Paul Collingwood, Andrew Flintoff, Ashley Giles, Steve Harmison, Matthew Hoggard, Geraint Jones, Simon Jones, Kevin Pietersen, Liam Plunkett, Matt Prior, Andrew Strauss, Marcus Trescothick, Shaun Udal.
