Hoggy back in the groove

Fast bowler Matthew Hoggard gave the England selectors a nudge with a superb display against Hampshire at Headingley.

The 31-year-old took 5-51 from 15 overs on a rain-affected second day to put Yorks firmly on the front foot of their County Championship fixture.

"As his spell went on he looked better and better," Tykes director of cricket Martyn Moxon commented.

"He needs some overs under his belt at the moment, so this will do him the world of good from a confidence point of view.

"He bowled beautifully after tea in particular, so hopefully he is back to what he is capable of.

"It is all about him getting his rhythm, when everything is going in the right place and his feet and arms are working together in the right areas he hasn't lost any of his pace.

"When you are slightly out of kilter, that is when you lose your pace and direction.

"I hope he's not playing for us for long, to be honest, because that means he's bowling well and is back in the England team."
