Harbhajan in slap probe

Harbhajan Singh is in fresh trouble after being suspended for allegedly slapping an opponent.

The troubled India off-spinner has been suspended pending an inquiry into claims he slapped international team-mate Sree Santh during an Indian Premier League game.

Harbhajan, who was captaining the beaten Mumbai Indians at the time, allegedly hit the Kings XI Punjab paceman and left him in tears.

Harbhajan has previously been involved in several high-profile disciplinary incidents and was at the centre of a racism storm when India took on Australia in an ill-tempered series earlier this year.

"The BCCI condemns the behaviour of Harbhajan Singh as a contracted player of the board," read a statement for the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

"He is called upon to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him and has been asked for clarification by Monday evening."
