Giles ready to impress

Ashley Giles is confident of rediscovering his best form in front of his home supporters when England attempt to level the Ashes series in next week's Second Test at Edgbaston.

The Warwickshire spinner has taken a mauling in the press for his limited contribution in the 239-run loss at Lord's, with Australia coach John Buchanan heaping the pressure on by revealing the tourists will target his bowling for the rest of the summer.

However, Giles is confident he can repeat his display from last season's Edgbaston test, when he claimed nine wickets as England crushed the West Indies.

"I've got a good record there and the crowd is always great in the way it gets behind us," he told the Birmingham Post. "I always enjoy playing at Edgbaston."

The 32-year-old also dismissed suggestions he had something to prove to the critics following his disappointing First Test showing.

"In one game I've gone from being the best spinner in the country to not being worth my place in the side - and I only bowled 11 overs in the match," complained Giles.

"Now apparently there are four or five better spinners out there.

"I've had a pretty successful 12-18 months, yet it almost seems it doesn't matter what I do.

"If I have one quiet game then all the critics start saying is 'it's time you were out' - it makes it much harder."
