Gallian seeking killer instinct
Nottinghamshire's stand-in captain Jason Gallian has warned his team-mates they will have to develop a killer instinct if they are serious about winning the County Championship.
Notts were set a target of 203 from 40 overs on the final day of their clash with fellow title hopefuls Surrey, but in the end were relieved to escape with a draw after being reduced to 169-8.
The draw was enough to keep them on top of the Division One table, but Gallian insisted falling short of the achievable target was a real missed opportunity.
"If you're going to win Division One you need to do better under that kind of pressure," he told the club's official website.
"We got ourselves into a position where we could win and then let Surrey back in. In the circumstances we've got to be happy with a draw."
Despite his disappointment, Gallian admitted he was happy with Notts' season to date and that he believed they could finish the season as champions.
"With six games left we're top of the pile and now the first target for the rest of the season is not to lose any games," added the 34-year-old.
"I think we can now say we won't be relegated and concentrate fully on a more glamorous target.
"There are probably three or four teams in with a shout of the title and with six games to go it's great to be one of them."
