England release Bairstow and Patel for county duty

Jun 29 2012 - 12:48:00

England have released, temporarily, both Jonathan Bairstow and Samit Patel from their one-day squad for the series with Australia so the duo can play Twenty20 cricket for their counties on Friday.

All-rounder Patel will feature for Nottinghamshire in their match at home to Durham, while batsman Bairstow returns to his native Yorkshire for their clash with arch-rivals Lancashire at Headingley.

Bairstow, Patel and fast bowler Jade Dernbach were the three players in England's squad omitted from the final XI to face Australia in the first one-day international at Lord's here on Friday.

Bairstow and Patel are due to report back to London on Saturday with the teams travelling across London for the second one-dayer at The Oval on Sunday.
