Derbys finally land Hinds

Derbyshire have revived their bid to land Wavell Hinds after signing the West Indies batsman to a Twenty20 contract.

The 31-year-old had originally intended to join the county as a Kolpak player for the entire season, but the deal was blocked because he had played in the unsanctioned Indian Cricket League.

However, Hinds will now join the Phantoms as an overseas player for the opening stages of the Twenty20 tournament while replacement Australia's Chris Rogers takes a mid-season break.

He will appear in Derbyshire's group matches and will be available for the quarter-finals should they qualify.

Head of Cricket John Morris said: "I have always been keen to bring Wavell to Derbyshire as he has all the qualities we are looking for - experience, ability and character.

"It hasn't worked out as planned but by coming in for the Twenty20 period he will give us a fresh impetus and real expertise in that format of the game.

"He is an exciting player, contributes with both bat and ball and is just what we need for Twenty20 cricket."
