Collingwood stays cool

England hopeful Paul Collingwood has played down his recent surge in form as he looks towards an Ashes call-up.

The Durham batsman, a regular in the England one-day team, has hit two big hundreds in the last week to make the selectors sit up and take notice, but Collingwood thinks that the panel already know his qualities.

He told the Daily Mirror: "I've not worried too much about being the form horse as the management know what I can do.

"I've been involved with nearly every Test squad, or been on the fringes, since 2002 in Perth when I was called up as cover for John Crawley, and I nearly played at Sydney in that Ashes series because Alec Stewart hurt his hand.

"For someone who's won only two Test caps, I've been around the scene for a long time and I'd like to think I've got more going for me than a couple of big hundreds for Durham in the past week.

"I've felt in good nick from the start of the season and the month of one-dayers gave me a chance to impress. I think they pushed me up the ladder a bit.

"A lot of people have probably never even seen me play with a red ball as I have been pigeon-holed as a one-day specialist to a large extent.

"But I'm only 29 and I'd love to show what I can do at Test level against the Aussies."
