Anderson points to practice
England seamer James Anderson believes a spell playing domestic cricket for Auckland last week was behind his return to form at Test level.
The Lancashire bowler was recalled to the side following the decision to axe Steve Harmison and Matthew Hoggard after the first Test defeat and Anderson responded by taking 5-73 in New Zealand's first innings.
England ended day two of the second Test on the front foot after the Black Caps were all out for just 198.
"It was nice to get some overs under my belt. If I had not got those overs who knows how it would have gone in this game," he said, referring to his brief spell wit Auckland.
"It's down to me now. I've got the chance and hopefully I can make the most of it.
"Looking forward, I'm looking at this chance I have now to try to get a few games under my belt.
"I want to be the bowler that the captain can throw the ball to when we need a wicket. I want to stake a claim and be here for a long time."
