Alleyne laments batting failures

Coach Mark Alleyne has blamed poor batting for Gloucestershire's relegation from Division One of the County Championship.

Gloucestershire's fate was sealed on Tuesday when Middlesex collected the necessary bowling bonus points on the first day of the counties' four-day match at Bristol.

A disappointed Alleyne told the club's official website: "Batting has been our major problem this year, quite comfortably.

"Generally, the wickets have been good and we haven't capitalised.

"Guys haven't got big enough scores individually. As a group, we haven't strung enough partnerships together, so that has been hugely disappointing.

"Bowling-wise, we've had the usual injury rigours, but I still feel we are competing with our bowling and in the field."

Gloucestershire have won just one of their 13 County Championship fixtures to date and only Glamorgan are below them in the Division One table.
