Alleyne at a loss after defeat

Gloucestershire coach Mark Alleyne was downcast after seeing his capitulate to an innings defeat to Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

Gloucs collapsed twice in a day to lose by an innings and 64 runs, with Alleyne struggling to come to terms with a season that has turned into a nightmare as his side have slipped to relegation to County Championship Division Two.

He said: "This result started on the first day really. We had ideal bowling conditions and the players to do well in those conditions but didn't utilise them at all.

"We didn't bowl the right length, either being too full or too short and the Notts attack showed what could be achieved by getting the ball in the right areas and putting the pressure on.

"I guess that can happen at this time of the year when you have been relegated. The gulf between the two sides was clear, but you do question how you can put in such a poor performance.

"As much as you try and motivate yourself and the players, it doesn't work like that. People need something more precious to play for than pride and it wasn't enough."
