Middlesex have confirmed the signing of former Australia great Adam Gilchrist for next season's Twenty20 Cup campaign.
The 38-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has retired from all forms of the game apart from the shortest, as he continues to feature in the Indian Premier League for the Deccan Chargers.
Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington told the county's official website: "We're absolutely delighted to have secured Adam's services for our 2010 Twenty20 campaign and have no doubt that his world-class ability and natural competitive spirit will have a huge part to play in making Middlesex a side who challenge for honours.
"We've worked extremely closely with the MCC to ensure that Adam comes on board with us next season and this signing is a great testament to how well our two clubs are working together.
"Under the new ECB rules, stipulating that each county can utilise the services of two overseas players for the 2010 season, all of us at Middlesex and the MCC felt that a player of Adam's calibre and quality would be of huge benefit.
"All of us are extremely excited and looking forward to Adam joining up with us next year and to him showing the Lord's crowds just what he can do."
