Captain Shaun Udal has revealed that Middlesex are hopeful of being able to sign South Africa paceman Makhaya Ntini.
Ntini, who has previously played in England with Warwickshire, could arrive at Lord's should he decide to retire from Test cricket following his recent axing from the squad for the third Test against England.
The 32-year-old could join Middlesex as a Kolpak player should he officially call time on his international career.
"He has not officially signed, but the next call is his," Udal told BBC Sport. "We'd be delighted to sign him."
Middlesex have already signed New Zealand international Iain O'Brien as their overseas player for next season.
Udal added: "He's got a fantastic record. He's taken more Test wickets than any other seamer in the last decade, but the decision is his."
