By the close, Gloucestershire had fought back well to reach 175 for three and lead by 59 - Chris Dent and Will Tavare making their second half-centuries of the match.
Elsewhere, Leicestershire lead Glamorgan by 194 with seven wickets remaining heading into the final day.
Ned Eckersley (70 not out) and Mark Pettini (33 not out) have put on 91 for the fourth wicket so far in Leicestershire's 200 for three.
Glamorgan had earlier eked out a six-run advantage on their first innings after Colin Ingram's 137 had helped them to a season's-best score of 426.
